PITMAN, NJ – Rutgers-Newark first-year player Mercedes Kuilan has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week after helping the Scarlet Raiders run their team winning streak to four. 

NJAC Women's Tennis Players Of The Week (October 4, 2009)

The academic sophomore posted singles and doubles victories in wins over John Jay and Kean as the Raiders improved to 5-7 on the season.

Over the weekend, Kuilan reached the Flight "B" consolation finals of the NJAIAW Championship at Drew University before losing to junior teammate Kelly Fitzsimmons.

She become the first Scarlet Raider to win a weekly NJAC tennis award this season.
