NEW YORK – Rutgers-Newark rolled to its third straight win, downing John Jay, 8-1, on the York College tennis courts in Jamaica, Queens, in a non-conference women's tennis match.

The Scarlet Raiders (4-7) dropped only the top-flight doubles match despite playing without regular top-flight singles player Ashley Lawrence. Rutgers-Newark dropped just 12 games in posting straight set wins on all six singles flights. 

Freshman Lia Salierno, playing on the top-flight for the first time in her young career, posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ashley Marrero – winning her fourth straight single match to improve to 5-3 on the season. 

Junior Kelly Fitzsimmons dominated Seirdron Snipe, 6-2, 6-0, on the No. 2 court while Mercedes Kuilan raced to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Yan Zheng on the third flight. 

Junior Amanda Northrup blanked Wilesca Belhomme, 6-0, 6-0, on the fourth flight while sophomore Wanze Li won her second straight match with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Cynthia Molina. Junior Kelly Chung also notched her second consecutive singles victory, 6-1, 6-0, over Jessica Rodriguez. 

Kuilan and Northrup crushed Belhomme and Zheng, 8-0, in second-flight doubles while Li and Chung posted an 8-1 win over Rodriguez and Molina on the No. 3 court. 

The Raiders return to New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, hosting Kean in a 4:30 p.m. match on The Golden Dome Courts.
