Raiders Turn In Strong Effort In First Day At New Balance Invitational

NEW YORK – Freshman Kevon Brown and Shariff Stubbs closed in on ECAC Indoor Championship qualifying times in the opening day of competition at the New Balance Invitational in the New York Armory.

Brown clocked an 8.65 time in the 60-meter hurdles to come within .13 of meeting the ECAC standard of 8.52 in just his second meet for the Scarlet Raiders, while Stubbs ran a 23.13 200-meters and a 7.30 60-meter dash. The ECAC standard for the 200 is 23.00 while the 60 is 7.11. 

Senior 400-meter specialist Nnaemeka Ibeh ran his second ECAC qualifying time of the young indoor season, clocking a 50.67 in the championship flight of the highly-competitive meet. 

Freshman Corey Graves blazed to a 1:09.01 in the 500-meter run, missing the ECAC qualifying standard by less than a second while lowering the R-N record of 1:09.74 set by DaQuan Bashir on February 15, 2009, at the Rider-Lafayette Winter Games in the Armory. 

Rutgers-Newark competes as a split squad tomorrow with some runners returning to the New Balance Invitational and the rest of the squad travelling to Springfield to compete in the Springfield 3-Way meet.
