Al-Don Muhammad has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in the Scarlet Raiders’ conference tournament semifinal loss to Richard Stockton.

The 6-foot-3 rookie point guard came off the bench for a career-high 14 points plus five assists as Rutgers-Newark fell, 86-73, to the Ospreys. Both squads gained NCAA Division III Championship Tournament at-large berths on Monday to join NJAC champion William Paterson in the prestigious field.
It is the first weekly award for Muhammad who has averaged 2.76 assists per game for the Raiders who have won a school-record 20 games to make the NCAA field for the first time in program history.
Rutgers-Newark (20-7) takes on Rhode Island College (20-7) on Friday at Pepin Gym on the campus of Middlebury College in Vermont in the opening round. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
