Matt Connors earned his second regional
ABCA/Rawlings Golden Glove Award and three other Rutgers-Newark players were named to the
2010 All-Mid-Atlantic Regional Teams.
Senior third baseman
Joe Furnaguera earned second-team notice while senior designated hitter
Anthony Yeswita and junior shortstop
Patrick Reitemeyer gained third team honors on the squad which included NCAA Division III institutions from New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
"I am very pleased that each was recognized for their outstanding season,” said Scarlet Raider Head Coach Mark Rizzi. “They were key contributors to this year's success. For Joe and Anthony, it’s a great way to culminate outstanding collegiate careers. And for Patrick and Matt, these accolades will carry them into their senior season with a lot of confidence. I'm extremely proud of them."
Connors was also was the Golden Glove second baseman as a freshman in 2008. He has committed just a dozen errors in 577 career chances while helping to turn 90 double plays. He committed just three errors this season – the same total as in his rookie year.
Furnaguera made the regional team for the first time, adding the award to first-team All-NJAC and NJCBA All-State teams following an outstanding senior season which capped a four-year career.
Yeswita made the squad for the second time after gaining second-team status as a junior while Reitemeyer, who joined Furnaguera on the All-NJAC first unit, gained all-regional recognition for the first time.
