PITMAN, NJ – Rutgers-Newark freshman
Nick DeRosa has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Week after shattering the school javelin record at the Danny Curran Invitational.
DeRosa uncorked a best effort of 57.05 meters (187 feet, 2 inches) to place fourth in a field of 29 competitors at the meet hosted by Widener University and become the first javelin thrower in the 5-year history of track & field at Rutgers-Newark to qualify for the ECAC Outdoor Championships in the event.
DeRosa erased senior
Joshua Stinson's week-old R-N javelin record of 55.20 meters (181 feet, 1 inch) set at the Monmouth Season Opener. He easily surpassed the ECAC qualifying standard of 55.5 meters.
Rutgers-Newark will compete in the Ramapo Invitational this weekend.
