Azoroh Claims Second NJAC Rookie Of The Week Award

RUTGERS-NEWARK MEN'S BASKETBALL

David Azoroh
PITMAN, NJ – Rutgers-Newark forward David Azoroh has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time after helping the Scarlet Raiders come within two points of the conference championship.

NJAC Men's Basketball Players Of The Week (Feb. 24, 2013)

Azoroh averaged 7.0 points and 3.5 rebounds as the Raiders (20-7) downed Richard Stockton, 49-46, in the NJAC semifinals before getting edged by Ramapo, 67-65, in the championship game on Friday.

In the title game, Azoroh's steal with eight seconds left gave the Raiders the final shot in the tough loss which denied Rutgers-Newark its first NJAC Championship.  He worked inside for 12 points, four rebounds and two blocked shots.

The split helped Rutgers-Newark gain its second at-large berth in the NCAA D-III Championship Tournament in the past four seasons.  The Raiders play at Christopher Newport on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the playoff's opening round.
